ODESSA MUSEUM OF LOCAL HISTORY
The museum is located in the center of Odessa, near the old City Garden, on a cozy small street called Gavannaya. Truly if it was necessary to get from Deribasovskaya and Preobrazhenskaya with freight to the port, it was easier to do it having turned to Gavannaya: through the couple of quarters, having softly and smoothly passed down and having dived under a peculiar bridge viaduct, the street leads directly to harbor. Perhaps, that's why in Havannaya street in 1876 according to the project of the known architect F.Gonsiorovskiy the house of palace type was built for one of large representatives of industrial and commercial elite of that time - Alexander Yakovlevich Novikov, the grandson of the well-known Odessa merchant of the first guild Ilya Novikov, the owner of the rope factory based in 1806. In this building being nowadays a monument of architecture of the second half of the XIX century there is the Odessa local history museum.
