REGIONAL PUPPET THEATER
Regional Puppet Theater is one of the oldest puppet theatres in our country.
In 1932, by the Odessa Youth Theatre, Puppet Theatre was opened, headed by an associate and a student of Sergei Obraztsov,a founder of Odessa Puppet Theater, an Honored Artist of Ukraine Jozef Aaronovitch Gimelfarb. He worked as the chief director of the theater for 40 years. Under his leadership, Odessa Puppet Theater has achieved considerable success as a professional theater company. As a playwright, he left behind dozens of plays, which are still included in the repertoire of many theaters not only in Ukraine but also abroad.
Since 1944, the theater becomes stationary, getting its own room. But the main business of the theater remained cultural education, involving in theater arts audience of children from towns and villages of the Odessa region. Numerous touring productions for visit of the most remote areas of the former Soviet Union, have become an integral part of the theatrical life of the troupe.
The work of the theater and its actors were awarded with the prize named after Edward Bagritsky and numerous state awards.Since 1976, the theater had worked under the direction of National Artist of Ukraine Yefremov, and in 1978, Levchenko became the chief director of the theater.
In the 1970-1990 the theatre confidently enters the All-Union and international scene, takes part in the international festival of puppet theaters (Lutsk). Twice, in 1988 and 1990 is awarded with a large bronze medal in the International Festival called Golden Dolphin (Varna, Bulgaria), becomes the winner and a laureate of the festivals in Holland, Japan, Romania, Finland. Since 1995 to 2002 is a participant and winner of international festivals in Moldova. Artists George Vannikov Larissa Soroka-Mindlina, Alexander Velnik are awarded with large silver medals.
In 2001, the Merry Adventures of Cossack Kupriyan play received the Grand Prix at the third-Ukrainian festival of puppet theaters in Odessa Regional Puppet Theatre, actors Faust Mindlin and Lyudmila Vasilyeva are marked with awards as best actor and actress of theater .Since 1995 as the main theater artist works Svetlana Prokofieva whose skills are widely known outside of Ukraine. Her works adorn the performances included in the repertoires of many theaters in Russia, France, Austria and Bulgaria. Famous actors Nina Anatoly Lukianchenko, Valentine Chatskina, Lyudmila Vasilyeva, Faust Mindlin, Lyudmila Marchenko work in a creative collective of theater.
Since 2001 the director of the puppet theater is a young professional Natalia Kaptusarova. Thanks to the efforts and organizational skills of a new director, the theater is going through a real positive change in the creative and production process. In 2002 Eugene Gimelfarb, the chief director of the theater Honored Artist of Ukraine, member of the international organization of puppeteers, the famous master, is invited for creative collaboration. The troupe is replenished by young actors - college graduates of Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk.
In 2003 actors course selection is planned for puppeteers at the Odessa Art - theatre School named after Grekova to replenish the creative staff of the theater and continued operation in the troupe.
Odessa Regional Puppet Theatre welcomes new creative projects and premiere for its anniversary – the 70 birthday . The chief director E. Gimelfarb produced Grandpa Corneille Visit (to the 120th jubilee of Chukovsky).
