Continuing the best traditions of the predecessors coryphaeuses, V. Vasilko Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater creatively developes them, is engaged in experiments. In the experimental conditions was born the performance Punishment without Revenge according to Lope de Vega's tragedy (the first version of this play in Ukraine) in 1998 when the director from Rome Alessio Bergamo was invited to performance.
The experience of the invitation to cooperation of the most interesting directors of Ukraine and CIS countries successfully proceeds. This prove performances of such directors as G. Matskyavich (Moscow), Princess Brambilla according to E.-T. A.Hoffmann story; D. Bogomazov (Kiev), Happiness nearby according to I.Franko's play named Stolen happiness, Oedipus by Sophocles, What is Gekuba for them? according to plays Riff-raff by Af. Saksagansky and Hamlet by W.Shakespeare; Y.Odinoky (Kiev), N. Gogol's writing called Auditor; Troitsk (Kiev), The Ukrainian Decameron; KLIM (Moscow, St. Petersburg), The 12th night played by actors of the country far from England who didn't know Shakespeare's words ever; L.Venediktova (Kiev), a solo performance called One according to S. Beckett; N. Grinshpun (Moscow), Morning of the businessman by N. Gogol.
Experimental scenic platforms for which the repertoire was made work except for the main scene: The viewer on the scene and the Scene 38.
Performances of the theater are prize-winners of many theatrical festivals.
Today it is possible to tell with confidence that the theater is included into the five of leaders of nation-wide theatrical process. This proves an appreciation of jury of the international and All-Ukrainian theatrical festivals, recognition of critics and love of the audience. It is quite natural that by results of the municipal stock called Inhabitant of Odessa of the Year in 2003 the staff of theater was awarded by the medal Crystal Pearl, thus the first time in the history the whole collective became the winner of this action.
In the theatrical foyer in a show-window the audience can see distinctions, awards, the prizes won by the theater throughout the last 5-6 years,the previous seasons learn about creative achievements of the collective having examined the museum exposition.
V. Vasilko Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater collective is always famous for its actors. The theatre troupe is presented by talented masters of all generations: elderly, middle-aged and youth. 4 national artists, 12 honoured artists of Ukraine and also honoured cultural workers of Ukraine work in the theatre.
There are 25 titles in the theatre repertoire. On the playbill the Ukrainian classics and modern plays of the Ukrainian authors, works of world classics and foreign dramatic art are presented.
The art director of the theate is the national actor of Ukraine I.Ravitsky.
The theater director is the honored worker of culture of Ukraine V. Prokopenko.
Lyubov Fedchenko is the head of literary and drama part of the theatre.
